========================================== = The Historical Society of Islip Hamlet = ========================================== - PLANNED EVENTS - Ocean Beach, Fire Island and the 1938 Hurricane =============================================== On Wed, Sept. 21st, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., the society will host author Cheryl Dunbar Kahlke as she presents stories and history of Ocean Beach and Fire Island with highlights of the 1938 hurricane, which hit Long Island exactly 73 years ago on 9/21/38. Ms. Kahlke's book will be available for purchase. The program is free and open to the public and will be held at the Marconi Manor, 333 Moffitt Blvd., Islip. For more info: 631/245-0675. Maritime History on Long Island =============================== On Wed., Oct. 12th, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., the society will host a program by the Maritime Museum which will give insight to the maritime history of Long Island as well as an overview of the Maritime Museums exhibits and programs. The program will be held at the Marconi Manor, 333 Moffitt Blvd., Islip and is free and open to the public. For more info: 631/245-0675. 18th Holiday House Tour ======================= The society will be hosting its 18th annual Holiday House Tour on Sun., Dec. 4th from 12n - 5:00 p.m. Several of Islip's historically and/or architec- turally significant homes will be on the tour, including the Scully Estate, home to the Seatuck Environmental Assoc. The reception, which boasts a wonderful Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, live entertainment, baked goods by the Islip School District's Career students, and lite refreshments will be held at one of Islip's historic churches. We will again be collecting toys for the USMC's "Toys-for-Tots" program. Tickets are $20/person in advance (16 and older) and $25/person day of tour.
